Putting artificial intelligence into production requires more than a governance policy. Financial institutions also need reliable ways to evaluate AI performance, monitor deployed systems, and maintain accountability as those systems become part of everyday operations.
Akash Nikam works directly on these challenges as Head of AI Products and Engineering at Vanguard. He will bring that experience to the 2027 Financial GRC Summit as a panelist discussing how financial institutions are translating AI governance policies into practical controls and oversight.
As part of Vanguard’s AI Center of Excellence, Akash leads teams developing the platforms used to evaluate, monitor, and oversee AI systems across the enterprise. Their work includes LLM-as-a-judge evaluation for conversational AI agents, post-production oversight tools, small language model development, and real-time controls for AI applications.
His responsibilities also involve working closely with Vanguard’s AI risk and governance teams to establish approaches that support trustworthy AI deployment at scale. This work connects the technical side of AI development with the risk management, transparency, and accountability requirements of operating in a highly regulated industry.
Since joining Vanguard in 2022, Akash has held senior machine learning positions, including work supporting enterprise security and fraud initiatives. Earlier in his career, he conducted applied machine learning research with Marshall University and the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center.
We are pleased to welcome Akash to the 2027 Financial GRC Summit speaker lineup. His experience developing enterprise AI evaluation and monitoring capabilities brings a relevant perspective to a discussion about making governance effective beyond written policies and frameworks.
Akash will participate in the panel discussion, “AI Governance in 2027: From Policy to Real-World Control.”
The session will examine how financial institutions are operationalizing AI risk management as adoption expands across business functions. Panelists will explore approaches to regulatory compliance, oversight, and transparency in automated decision-making, including the practical considerations involved in maintaining control over increasingly complex AI systems.
The conversation will also address how technology, compliance, and risk teams are working together to establish effective governance processes. As institutions deploy AI at greater scale, aligning technical capabilities with organizational accountability and board-level expectations becomes an important part of managing enterprise risk.
Akash’s work on AI evaluation, production monitoring, and real-time controls will contribute a practical engineering perspective to the discussion. His experience collaborating with AI risk and governance teams also reflects the coordination required to turn governance objectives into systems and processes that can be implemented and maintained.
We look forward to welcoming Akash Nikam to the Financial GRC Summit and hearing his insights alongside other financial services risk, compliance, and technology leaders.
